VALVE LEAK DETECTION AND ESTIMATION

Losses due to intrinsic valve leakage can impart negatively on any operator profits. This, in addition to increasing concern, about the environment, informed the development of VPAC by Physical Acoutics Ltd in conjunction with BP such that maintenance is targeted more accurately on leaking valves during the shutdowns, even when such leaking valves are closely manifolded on the operating plant.

VPAC enables estimation of through-valve leakage based on measurements made, using a PAL model 5131 portable monitor together with data on valve size, type, and differential pressure. It was developed for use on offshore platforms, FPSOs, gas plants, chemical plants, and refineries. The technology is primarily for estimating gas losses, gas-to -gas, or liquid-to-gas. However, limited data on liquid leakage is also included in the technology package.
